Canon Update
From the start of season two to the end of season three
A lot has happened in this time. Besides her duties as Hell Girl that is. A young boy named
Takuma is persecuted by his town. They believe he is the cause of the mysterious disappearances when in fact it is people using Hell Correspondence. As time goes on more and more people in the town send others to Hell knowing it will be blamed on Takuma. After a long period of this someone sends Takuma to Hell. Ai is ferrying him there but stops when he asks to go back. They go back to the mortal word.
It is reveled that the mysterious girl who had been traveling with Ai is the puppet of the Lord of Hell. He takes over Kikuri and he returns Ai to her human form with no memories of her assistants as punishment for going against his wishes. Ai tries to go after Takuma, who ran off to his house. There is a mob there as he tries to burn it down and is almost killed by the mob till Ai shows up. She manages to calm them down and lead Takuma away from the burning house.
However one of the men in the mob snaps and begins to hit Ai as he doesn’t want to go to Hell. The rest of the mob joins in and her assistants watch in horror as they can do nothing. Takuma is able to get them to stop and Ai dies holding his hand before turning into sakura petals. The souls of her loved ones are released to heaven
In the next season Ai’s companions are gathered up by Kikuri and strange boy. They had gone on their own separate ways when Ai died, living as mortals. As it turns out Ai isn’t gone entirally. She appears in front of a girl named Yuzuki and kisses her to be able to posses her body.
The season continues with Ai using Yuzuki and it is revealed that Yuzuki is to be the next Hell Girl and this is in, someway, training. We find out that Yuzuki is actually already dead. When Yuzuki accepts this, Ai disappears and Yuzuki becomes the new Hell Girl.
However on her first misson she is sent to her best friends father who wants revenge against the girl who sent his own daughter to Hell. However when he changes his mind Yuzuki tries to send the girl to Hell herself in revenge for her friend. She is stopped by the lord of Hell who says for breaking the rules she herself will be sent to Hell. This in turn is stopped when Ai appears again. In exchange for Yuzuki being able to go to Heaven and not Hell Ai will remain the Hell Girl forever. She accepts this and revels to Yuzuki her own life and why she is doing this.
The last scene is Ai and her companions preforming her duties as the Hell Girl
Personality
Ai's personality has pretty much stayed the same. She shows more emotions then she used to. But that is limited really to rare smiles. The fact that her families souls are now safe from Hell is one burden that is off her back now. However she is also resigned to her fate. She will be Hell Girl forever. The lingering hope in the back of her mind that she would able to finish with this task one day has been crushed. She believes that hatred will never come to an end and has such become more cynical.
